Abel Garza, age 64 of Newell, died Monday November 28th, 2011 at the Spearfish Regional Medical Center in Spearfish. The funeral service will be held 10:30am Tuesday December 6th, 2011 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Funeral arrangements are with Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche. Abel Garza was born May 6, 1947 in Brackettville Texas. He was the son of Senon and Raymunda Garza. Coming from a large family, Abel went to work to help support the family at a very young age. This meant forfeiting schooling to help his family. In his early 20’s he moved to South Dakota for sheep shearing. This is where he made his home for many years. Abel drove truck for Steens Feed for many years. Through this job and shearing, he met many area farmers and ranchers. He was still in touch with many of them. Upon his death he was working with his good friend, Mr. P.J. Cook. Abel had a great sense of humor and enjoyed laughing and playing with family and friends alike. Abel also had a tremendous love for his children and grandchildren. He had daily routines of checking up on all of them. He was active in his church, and he often encouraged his family members to attend with him. He was a father, grandfather, neighbor, and friend to all who knew him. He knew no strangers. Abel is survived by his sons, Margarito Garza of Belle Fourche, Abel Garza Jr. of Rapid City; daughters, Tari (Matthew) Warner of Belle Fourche, Virginia Garza of Texas; 6 grandchildren, Tyler and Tiernan, Robert, Vincent, and Layna, Dravyn Jr.; 4 brothers, Alejandro of Texas, Fredrico of Texas, Catarino of Texas, Rueben of Sioux Falls; and 1 sister, Alicia Talamentez of Texas.
