Elizabeth Rose Donald was born July 28, 1943 in Belle Fourche.  She was the daughter of William and Ethel (Dienstel) Donald.  Liz grew up in Belle Fourche, and was a 1961 graduate of the Belle Fourche High School.  Liz began working at the John Burns Hospital in her teen year, first as a candy striper and then as a nurse’s aid.  She worked there for several years.  In November of 1961, Liz was united in marriage to Jack Herman in Rapid City.  Together they enjoyed almost 50 years of marriage.  For 33 years, Liz worked as a Dispatcher for the Butte County Sherriff’s Department.  Liz excelled in her work, and it was a hard decision when she retired this past September.  She loved the people she worked with very much, and she had a special bond with them.  Liz had a nurturing spirit that brought calm to emergency calls, and also to friends facing stressful situations.  She was loved by many people who worked with her because she herself was a loving and caring friend to many.  Liz enjoyed the many camping trips with her family and the annual Fourth of July gathering at her home.  She was a wonderful mother and grandmother and she carried a special bond with her granddaughter, Cadee with whom she cared for often.  She gave all her grandchildren their first bath, and she loved each one very much.  She will be missed so much by her family and friends.  Liz is survived by her daughters, Jana (Lon) Dale of Belle Fourche, Jinger (Steve) Clyde of Belle Fourche, Jodi Scherr of Belle Fourche; 10 grandchildren, Cassidee, Cadee, Ceylee, Mardi, Jack, Doug, Taylor, Trevor, Jacob, and Turner; 1 great granddaughter, Carlie; and sister, Elaine (Raymond) Snider of Martinsville, IN.  Liz is also survived by her special friends, Serola Davis, Fred Lamphere, Dallas Ford. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jack Herman in 2011; infant son, Jeffrey Dean; grandson, Chase; sisters, Marcella Moore and Patricia Chaffee; brothers, Jonathon and Jim Donald; and nephews, Jeremy and Brent.   Date of Birth July 28,1943 – Belle Fourche, South Dakota Date of Death March 29, 2012 – Belle Fourche, South Dakota Funeral Service 10:30 A.M. – Friday – April 6th, 2012 St. James Lutheran Church - Belle Fourche, SD Officiant – Pastor Jeff Otterman Tributes Sheriff Fred Lamphere, Dallas Ford, Serola Davis Special Music “Bridge Over Troubled Water”, “I Believe”, “I Won’t Let Go” –  Pete Buer, soloist Cong.
