Josephine was the fourth child of thirteen born to August and Mary Eva (Schmaltz) Deibert at Aberdeen, SD.  When she was about 15 months old the family moved to Perkins Co. to a homestead at Drew, SD.  This is where she grew up and attended Brushy School.  When she was 14 years old she started working for a lady named Mrs. McKracken who managed the hotel at Bixby, SD.  She stayed there and helped with the work.  After that she went to Bison and worked for Hazel Steen who managed a maternity home.  The next job was working for Florence and Alfred Reeder who lived on a Ranch by Drew, SD.  She helped with the household chores and helped raise Bob, Richard and Betty.  The children  always called her their second mom.  Mary Ann was born later just before she quit working there to get married. She married Joseph L Sander a neighbor boy on April 7, 1942 in Bison.  She lived with her parents and sister Julia for awhile when their husbands Joe & Carvel were in the Service during  WWII.  After Joe was discharged they bought a house in Bison. During her life in Bison she worked at the Bison Hotel, City Café, and was the janitor of the Perkins County Courthouse.  She lived in Bison until she moved to the Sunpointe Assisted Living Center in Belle Fourche, on Nov 12, 2013.  She dearly loved her new home there and made some special friends.  Josephine was very friendly and loved to visit with anyone who would visit with her.  No one was a stranger to her, she could strike up  a conversation with anyone who may be sitting beside her or waiting in line anywhere.  She will be greatly missed by all her family and friends.
