Ellen Irene Cammack was born in Buffalo SD on August 26, 1940, the first born of Donald and LeElla (Russell) Cammack.  Ellen lived in Buffalo for 19 years, attending grades 1-7 at the Buffalo public school, and grades 8-10 at St. Martin’s Academy in Sturgis SD.  She finished 11 th and 12 th grades at Buffalo High School, graduating in 1958.  Afterwards, Ellen spent two years working for her dad at the Buffalo Times Herald newspaper shop, then moved to Sturgis and worked at the Western Café’ and helped take care of Mrs. Anne Bachand until she passed away. Ellen met Jim Sheeler in Sturgis and they were married August 26, 1960 in Pierre SD.  To this union two sons were born: James Jr. (Jimmy) in 1961, and Daniel (Cory) in 1977.  Following their marriage the couple settled in Vale where they farmed for many years.  Ellen’s life on the farm was a good one, but was filled with much hard work.  She helped milk cows, raise many chickens and geese that were sold to people and local stores, and she took great pride in raising a large garden and many beautiful flowers.  She also was involved with the farming aspect which included irrigating and operating the tractors when needed. Ellen’s talents were numerous.  She was an avid artist, painting many beautiful pictures over the years for friends and family.  She loved taking pictures and Bear Butte was her favorite subject.  She was a great cook and always kept her house, yard, and family in tip top shape.  She not only took care of her own family, but she nurtured and taught many people over the years that she and Jim graciously took into their home, especially through the summers.  She also baked and decorated many wedding and anniversary cakes for friends and family that were truly works of art.  She had many talents, but her biggest one was just being “her” – a kind, loving, caring, generous woman, who truly was a friend to all who met her.  Her grandchildren were a delight for her and each one had their very own special spot in her heart. Ellen was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses for over 40 years.  She loved the promises that God set out in the Bible.  And she shared those beliefs with her family, friends, and neighbors. Ellen is survived by her two sons, James (Shelly) Sheeler of Vale, Cory (Lyndsay) Sheeler of Spearfish; 4 grandchildren, Scott (Amanda), Michael, Alisha, Alli; 1 great granddaughter, Lexi; 2 step-great grandchildren, Braylee and Keion; and 8 brothers and sisters, Donna Murray of Arco ID, Katherine (Sonny) Wickham of Garnett KS, Charles (JoyDell) Cammack of Arco ID, Margie Elwood of Logan UT, Donald (Vonda) Cammack of Moriarty NM, Thomas (Tina) Cammack of Arco ID, Geri Cammack of Arco ID, Nina (Matthew) Crane of Middleton ID.  Ellen is also survived by Walter (Lori)  Shaw of Aztec, New Mexico who grew up on the family farm and was considered a son by Ellen and her family.
