Alma Romness

December 19, 1919 — February 22, 2015

Alma Romness, age 95 of Belle Fourche, died Sunday February 22, 2015 at the Belle Fourche Regional Senior Healthcare Center. A memorial service will be held 3:30 P.M. Friday, February 27th, 2015 at Leverington Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche with Pastor Bob Duemig officiating. There will be no visitation. Inurnment will take place at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Missoula, Montana. Memorials are preferred to the Butte County 4-H. Alma Ray was born December 19, 1919 to Edward and Mina Ray on a farm west of Missoula, Montana. A year later, the family moved to the nearby upper Rattlesnake Valley to start the Sun Ray Dairy, a prosperous enterprise for several decades. She and her younger brother attended the old Rattlesnake school walking several miles each day. She graduated from Missoula County High School. In 1940 she was married to Palmer O. Romness and in 1942 they bought the ranch and dairy at Clinton, Montana where they lived until their retirement in 1975. Alma was a long-time member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Bonner, and an active member of Home Demonstration Club in Clinton Montana. For many years, she delivered mail five days a week on a rural route that stretched over 25 miles. Alma was widely known for her large garden from which she produced fantastic meals. Alma enjoyed traveling and had been to many western states plus Mexico and Canada, and twice for longer stays in Europe, especially Switzerland and Norway. Throughout her long life, she was always optimistic, never complaining, willing to help anyone. Since 2002 she has lived at the Belle Fourche Senior Healthcare Center. Alma will be greatly missed. Alma is survived by her son, Gary (Else) Romness of Fauske, Norway; brother, Edward Ray of Spring Creek NV; daughter-in-law, Ellie Romness of Belle Fourche; 4 grandchildren, Christen (Johanna) Romness of Finland, Carine (Bent) Sollund of Fauske Norway, Shannon (Ivan) Davis of Belle Fourche, Kimberly (Geno) Bonomo of North Platte Nebraska; 6 great grandchildren, Tye, Serene, Isabella, Mari, Sondre, Erik; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Palmer; and son, Gordon.
