Gwyn H. Jewett

June 14, 1925 — January 21, 2009

Gwyn Jewett age 83 of Belle Fourche, died Wednesday January 21, 2009 surrounded by his loving family, at the home of his daughter Nina near Belle Fourche. Services will be held 6:30 PM Friday at the Christian Life Center in Belle Fourche, and also 1 PM Saturday at the United Church of Christ in Isabel. Rev. Paul Howard will officiate both services. Visitation will be held one hour prior to each service. Interment will be held in the Hillview Cemetery, in Isabel. Arrangements are with Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche. Gwyn Halstead Jewett was born on June 14th, 1925, to Oliver and Verla Jewett 15 miles south of Isabel on the family homestead. He was raised with five siblings. He attended school and graduated from Isabel High School in 1943. Always ready to lend a helping hand, he met his wife Jessie when he found a beautiful young princess stranded in a desolate ditch near Glad Valley. Gwyn always referred to this story as a stroke of good luck. This princess became his queen when married November 10th, 1945. A sheep wagon located in "no man’s land" county was their first home. Isolated as it was, kids soon followed. Gwyn and Jessie Jewett prided themselves in raising their children with strong values, work ethic, and a love for the Lord. After ranching for "more than several" years, Gwyn and Jessie retired to the Hills. They enjoyed their time here being surrounded by family and friends. Gwyn participated in several horseshoe tournaments (even winning a World Championship), often disappeared to shoot pool with his kid brother OJ, took pride in his garden, and attended numerous sporting events. Gwyn and Jessie have been very supportive and proud of their grandchildren and great grandchildren’s accomplishments. On Wednesday, January 21st, 2009, Gwyn graduated to Glory and changed his address to Heaven. One shepherd united with another. Gwyn is now dancing on the streets of gold and having a beautiful reunion with loved ones and friends who have gone before him. He is preceded in death by his parents, Oliver and Verla, two sisters Bonnie (Bob) and Jane (Jim), one brother Bob (Gladys), and niece Joyce. Gwyn’s spirit now lives on through his wife, Jessie, of 63 years, his oldest daughter Nina (Armin) Finkbeiner, son Hal (Tammy) Jewett, and daughter Sheryl (Doug) Hogan.; brothers, O.J. (Joan) Jewett of Belle Fourche, Jack Jewett of Mesa, AZ. He has eight grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews, and a legend where none will fill his boots. We love you dad!
