Margaret Summers

January 23, 1922 — December 6, 2015

Margaret S. Summers, age 93 of Belle Fourche, died Sunday December 6th, 2015 at the Belle Fourche Regional Healthcare Center. The funeral service will be held 10:30 am Thursday, December 10th, 2015 at Leverington Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche. Visitation will begin at 9am on Thursday. Interment will take place 12:30pm Thursday at the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis. Margaret Shirley Kruesman was born January 23, 1922 in Medina, North Dakota. She was the daughter of Charles and Amelia (Kolb) Kruesman. Margaret’s early childhood was spent in North Dakota and Minnesota. In 1928 the family moved to Bison to be near other family. Margaret attended school there and in 1942 graduated from high school. For a time, Margaret worked at the Lemmon Tribune. Then in October of 1942 she joined the U.S. Navy Waves. During part of this time she was stationed in Bainbridge Island, near Seattle Washington. There she met William Summers who was also in the Navy. They were married January 24, 1945 in Seattle Washington. To this union was born two children: Charles and Charlene. After her discharge, the couple moved to Baltimore where Bill worked for Bethlehem Steel and Margaret worked as a file clerk for an insurance company. In 1972 the couple retired to Lemmon. Bill died in 1990 and four years later Margaret moved to Spearfish. For the past five years she has resided at the Belle Fourche Regional Healthcare Center. Margaret was a member of the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Rapid City. During her years of living in Lemmon, she was an active member of the Calvary Lutheran Church and the Five Counties Hospital Auxiliary. She enjoyed card games in her younger years, along with her many friends. Margaret is survived by her daughter, Charlene (Marvin) Crawford of Heart Butte, MT; 3 grandchildren, Lee, Joe, and Margaret; brother, George Ketterling of Spearfish; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Charles; and brother, Walter Kruesman.
