** VIDEO TRIBUTE CAN BE VIEWED BELOW  **Modesta Alveraz, age 90 of Camp Crook, died Tuesday, January 5th, 2016 surrounded by her loving family, at the home of her daughter, near Camp Crook SD, where she has lived the past four years. Visitation with the family present will be held 1 to 4pm Friday, January 8th, 2016 at Leverington Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche. Funeral services will be held in Camp Wood, Texas on January 14th at 10:30am at the Nelson Funeral Home. Interment will take place in the Garden of Memories Cemetery, in Camp Wood, Texas. Modesta Deleon was born November 4, 1925 in Montell, Texas. She was the daughter of Guadalupe and Rafeala (Carabajal) Deleon. She was born at the Bushy Wilson Ranch. Modesta lived in Montell until she met and married Santigo “Jimmy” Balderas in 1940. They moved to Camp Wood, Texas and there, seven children were born to them: Prudencia, Maria Ester, Rafeala, Santiago “Jim”, Ernesto, Jesse, Ruben, and later they adopted an 8th child, Terry. Santiago died in 1983. Modesta loved to work and will be remember for being a hard worker. She was a very active person. For many years she cleaned homes at Casa Falcon, the Circle Ranch, and Gunner State Park in Texas. She was a very caring and loving mother and grandmother. Her family was always above everything else in life. She will be greatly missed. Modesta is survived by her daughters, Ester (LeRoy) Oleson of Camp Crook, and her children Tami White and Donny Powell, Rafeala Balderas of Beevilla, TX and her child, Rafe Balderas; sons, Jim (Lee Martinez) Balderas Jr. of Camp Wood, TX and his children, Carlos Martinez, Cindy Martinez, Lynn Balderas, and Tammy Sue Goodman, Ruben (Cheryl Burghduff) Balderas of Camp Crook and his children, Jesse, Ruben, Little Ruben, Jennifer, Joseph, Fernando, and Esther Walla Balderas, Terry (Terrie) Balderas of Camp Wood TX and his children, Andrew, Skylar, and Dillon Balderas, Chando Saiz and children, Craig and Ace Saiz, and the children of Ernesto, Nicholas, Jessica, and Jimmy Balderas, and Anthony Estrada. Also surviving are sisters, Amanda Deleon Diaz, Pauline Deleon, Lupe Falcon, Mary Aguero, Yolanda Aguero, Gloria Fernandez; brothers, Felix Deleon, Leroy Deleon, Ray Deleon, Lupe Deleon Jr., Teddy Deleon, and numerous great grandchildren, great great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Guadalupe and Rafeala; husband, Santigo “Jimmy” Balderas; infant daughter, Prudencia; sons, Ernesto and Jesse Balderas; sisters, Lucy Tobar, and Tomasa Mendosa; brother and sister in law, Cruz and Elsa Deleon; and nephew, Tres Deleon.
