Jean Friese

** Jean's Video Tribute Can Be Viewed Below ** Jean Friese, age 82 of Belle Fourche, died Tuesday, January 24, 2017 at the Spearfish Regional Hospital. The funeral service will be held 10:30 A.M. Monday, January 30th, 2017 at Leverington Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche. Visitation will take place 3 to 5pm Sunday and one hour prior to the service. Interment will be held in Pine Slope Cemetery. Doris Jean Berg was born April 12, 1934 in Hettinger, North Dakota. She was the daughter of Ralph and Jessie (Lewton) Berg. Jean grew up and attended school in Hettinger. Following high school, she attended Black Hills State University in Spearfish, where she majored in education. Jean worked as a teacher in a rural school. On June 2, 1954, she was united in marriage to William Friese Jr. in Howard, SD. To this union six children were born: Louis, Bailey, Roma, Lorna, Lester, and Monica. Following their marriage, Jean and Bill farmed and ranched in the Bison area. Later they moved to Piedmont where they lived for several years. For 20 years, Jean and Bill managed motels in various towns, and in 2001 they retired to Belle Fourche. Bill died December 8, 2007 and since then Jean has lived at home in Belle Fourche. Jean enjoyed sewing, quilting, and selling Avon in her younger years. Family was the most important thing to her. She loved spending time with everyone and she loved her dog, Cubby. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends. Jean is survived by 3 sons, Louis (Debbie) of Hoquiam WA, Bailey (Sue) of Rapid City, Lester (Melissa) of Rapid City; 3 daughters, Roma (Ken) Rogge of Broadus MT, Lorna (Mike) Shell of Las Vegas NV, Monica (Johnnie Shafer) Merchen of Pierre; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is also survived by 3 brothers, James Berg of Henderson NV, Leo Berg of Grand Forks ND, Joe Berg of Carney NE; and 3 sisters, Mary Russell of Jamestown ND, Bernadette Heck of Dickinson ND, and Nadine DeBay of Climax MN. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, William Friese Jr.; sister, Florence Hilden; and brothers, Paul and John Berg.
