Hurtt.“The Soldier” Written by Douglas Dempcy May 29, 2005The angels stood in silence As heavens gates swung wide The streets were lined with veterans As the Soldier stepped insideThere stood our savior smiling As the crowd let out a cheer He said “Good and faithful servant, It’s good to see you here”He took the soldier by the hand And said “son, come with me There’s something I must show you, But you’ll have to wait and see”The golden walkway they stepped in stride And the Savior began to speak The teary eyes looked on with pride As they passed by on the street“I made you special and put you in The good old USA Where freedom rings and angels sing And children love to playTo guard that special freedom And with courage, take a stand To pledge allegiance to the flag And to God who made the landYou suffered like no others On the battlefields abroad Your selfless acts of bravery Were gifts to you from GodAll those who came before you A foundation they did lay And we celebrate it up here too Every year on Memorial DayThen there they were, a crowd so large They seemed to never end “This is what I wanted to show you Take a good look at them my friend”“You see, they wouldn’t be here They would never have heard of me You made it safe, around the world From sea to shining sea”“You stopped the Godless in their tracks And made the tyrants pay You spread the gift of freedom In your own land and far away”“A special place I’ve made for you And forever you will live With me and your faithful brothers Who taught the world to give”
