April 22, 1931 — March 14, 2010

Lela Bandy, age 78 of Belle Fourche, died Sunday March 14, 2010 at the Rapid City Regional Hospital in Rapid City. Memorial services will be held 11am Thursday March 18, 2010 at Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche, with Rev. Del Neumeister officiating. There will be no visitation. Inurnment will take place in Valley View Cemetery, in Broadus, Montana. Lela Nehlich as born April 22, 1931 in Miles City, Montana. She was the daughter of Christian and Caroline (Mayer) Nehlich. Lela lived on a ranch in Coalwood, Montana and attended schools in Olive and Biddell until she moved to Broadus, where she attended high school. There she met Merle Bandy and they were later married on June 12, 1949 in Miles City, Montana. They lived in Broadus until Merle started to work in the oil fields. After traveling for many years, the Bandy’s settled in Belle Fourche to raise their family. Merle drilled water wells while Lela stayed home and became a Den Mother for the Cub Scouts. Lela later worked in the school lunch program and joined the VFW Women’s Auxiliary. Merle died in 1980. Lela enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and she will be greatly missed by her children and family. Lela is survived by her sons, Douglas of Belle Fourche, Donald of Las Vegas NV; daughter, Dana Liggett of Belle Fourche; sister, Anna Skaggs of Billings MT; and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Dwight; brothers, Otto and Harry Nehlich; and sisters, Emma Lockwood and Babe Sandall.
