Obituary

The angels are singing and the heavens are celebrating the homecoming of God’s beloved child Amanda Ann (Mandy) St. John. Born in Wenatchee, Washington, March 15, 1984, Amanda bid her earthly home farewell on February 14, 2026 – Valentine’s Day – the most fitting of days for her sweet soul.

Diagnosed in September 2022 with terminal cancer that had spread throughout her body, we didn’t expect Mandy to see Christmas that year. But her determination, grit, spunk, and perseverance gave us three bonus years with her. In those years she was an inspiration to everyone who was privileged to witness her journey.

Cancer wasn’t the first battle Mandy had fought – at a young age she was diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome (high-functioning autism). Mandy blazed trails throughout her life. She was the first student in the Wenatchee schools to be recognized with Asperger’s, and she opened the door for Asperger’s to be considered a medical disability. Despite her challenges, Mandy truly embraced life with an independent and strong-willed spirit.

When Mandy had the opportunity to work as a library aide, she commented, “Working at the library would be cool, and getting paid would be a bonus!” Thus began her lifelong career working for many years at the Wenatchee Public Library before moving to Gillette, Wyoming, in June 2020 and working as a Page at the Campbell County Public Library. Mandy LOVED books and could be found reading up to ten books at one time with way more books checked out at any given time than any human being should! She also enjoyed sewing by hand – creating clothes for her cherished dolls and many gifts for her loved ones.

Many will remember Mandy as the red-headed gal walking everywhere. She loved spending time in local coffee shops reading her books and listening to music of many genres. For several years she rang the bell for Salvation Army, and we’re pretty sure much of her kettle’s donations were from Mandy herself as she was a generous soul, especially to the underprivileged.

Along with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, Mandy was welcomed into Heaven by her grandparents John and Myrtle Forgey, Don and Alene St. John, and Dave and Margie Junek and cousins Larry Grigsby, Jessica Forgey, Bill Muir, and Rich Howell.

She will be greatly missed by her father Chuck St. John of Wenatchee, Washington; her mother and stepfather Patty and Mark Junek of Gillette, Wyoming; her sister Becky and Dustin Bungert and nephew Brantley Bungert of Gillette, Wyoming; and her sister Kelly St. John and nephew Kaiden Hutchins of Dumfries, Virginia. She is also survived by her aunts and uncles Carla Forgey and Ron Smith, Pauline Forgey, and Barbara and Clyde Grigsby all of Spokane, Washington; Charlotte and Bob Muir of Morton, Washington; Jim and Judy Forgey of Edmonds, Washington; Pete and Katie Forgey of Greenfield, Indiana; Donna St. John of Wasilla, Alaska; and Janet and Ben Barstow of Palouse, Washington; and cousins Terry, Vicki, Heidi, Christine, Todd, Chad, Jill, Andy, Mary, and Tyler. Her special “Monday Warrior” friends Suzie, Priscilla, Lori, Linda, Gail, and Kim have stood by her side throughout her battle providing love, support, transportation, and fellowship. Mandy also leaves behind two very beloved and sad kitties Betsy Ross and Paul Revere.

Private burial services will take place in Belle Fourche, South Dakota, next to her step-grandparents Dave and Margie Junek. A memorial service will be held at 1 pm Saturday, March 7, 2026, at Journey Church (3601 Southern Drive, Gillette, Wyoming).

Memorials may be made to a special fund for Mandy’s brother-in-law Dustin Bungert who is himself preparing for a life-saving liver transplant – Dustin Bungert Transplant Fund at Campco Federal Credit Union (PO Box 3169, Gillette, WY 82717).

Thank you to Pastor Erin Youngs and our Journey Church family for your support and love throughout Mandy’s journey, and a special thank you to Mark Leverington of Leverington Funeral Home of the Northern Hills for your friendship, support, and guidance in taking wonderful care of our precious Amanda.
