IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Ann
McGuire
November 6, 1952 – October 13, 2025
Ann McGuire, age 72 of Rapid City, died Monday, October 13, 2025 at the Rolling Hills Healthcare Center in Belle Fourche.
A Memorial Service will be held 10 am Saturday, October 25, 2025 at Leverington Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche. There will be no visitation.
Ann worked hard throughout her life to support herself and her
family. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and aunt. Like the
matriarch of an elephant herd, she stood unwavering, her presence a
shelter, her embrace a promise: I am here. Always.
In the wild, female elephants are known as fierce protectors. And
when one of their sisters is suffering, they circle up around her. They
close in tight, watch guard, and even kick dust around her to mask
very vulnerable scent from predators.
And yet, we are the same. This is who we are, and who we are
meant to be for each other. Sometimes we’re the ones in the middle.
Sometimes we’re the ones kicking up dust with fierce, fierce love.
But the circle remains.
Thank you for being our elephant.
Ann McGuire was born November 6, 1952, in South Dakota to
Alice (Larsen) McGuire and Francis “Mac” McGuire. Ann attended
elementary at the country school in Caputa, SD, and 9th grade at
South Junior High in Rapid City, SD. She attended Rapid City Central
High School and graduated in 1971.
Following graduation she followed her career dream. She attended
Steward Beauty College in Sioux Falls and received her Cosmetology
license to cut and style hair. Her first job took her to Minneapolis,
MN, and then onto Fort Worth, TX.
In the 1980’s, Ann and her husband, Carl, moved to Australia. There
they developed and marketed several limited editions of the “This
Is Your City” board games. Their board games included the cities of
Wagga Wagga, Liverpool, and many other cities.
After Australia, Ann returned to Texas where she spent most of her
life building a family and lifelong friends.
In 2002, Ann moved to Rapid City, South Dakota for four years
where she owned and managed her own salon.
In 2006 she returned to Fort Worth where she lived for another 15
years. The various salons that she worked at, Papillon, Martin & Co.,
and NV were her home away from home. She dearly loved and
enjoyed being around her salon family and coworkers.
During her 40+ year career as a hair stylist, Ann loved to style hair
and do makeup for family and friends. One memorable event of her
career was when she was part of the team hired to do wig/make-up
for the performers of the Texas Ballet Theater during the Christmas
holiday season. She remained on staff for several years with the Texas
Ballet Theater.
Ann loved Texas and has many life-long friendships there. She and
friends enjoyed Broadway Shows at the Bass Performance Hall and
Circle Theatre put on by the Performing Arts Fort Worth. She enjoyed
gal-pal road trips with “Miss Pinkie” and “Shirlene” throughout Texas.
Ann loved dining out with friends, co-workers and family over a
glass of wine or a cold “brewski”. In 2021, she began developing
symptoms of Alzheimer’s and returned to South Dakota to be close
to her siblings and family. She passed away on Monday, October 13,
2025.
Ann is survived by her sons: Carl (Geraldine) Wallis, NJ, and
Clayton Lusty, SC; sisters, Ellen Reddick, SD, Jo (Mark) Vroman, SD,

and Cherie; and parents, Francis “Mac” and Alice McGuire.
