Darlene Verry, age 83 of Belle Fourche, died Tuesday, October 26, 2021 at the Monument Health Spearfish Hospital.

A Celebration of her life will take place 2pm Tuesday, November 2, 2021 at Leverington Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche.  There will be no visitation.  Darlene’s funeral will be broadcasted live online, on her obituary page located on the funeral home’s website: www.LeveringtonFH.com, where there is also a video tribute available to view.

In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred. 

Darlene Slaathaug was born December 7, 1937 in New England, North Dakota.  She was the daughter of Merlin and Albina (Pulkrabek) Slaathaug.  Darlene grew up on the family farm located near Amidon, ND, where her love for animals was born, especially horses.  Darlene was always a cowgirl at heart.  In 1955 she graduated from the New England High School.  Darlene worked as a waitress at “Mom’s Café” in Amidon.  After high school, Darlene attended college, and spent some time in Las Vegas and ended up living in Washington DC for a short time, where she worked as a typist for the Department of Navy.  In 1956 she was married to William Woods, in Bowman ND.  To this union was born 3 children: Wade, Deidre, and Dallas.   Following their marriage Darlene and William lived at Glendive, Montana. Later they divorced and in 1963, Darlene and the kids moved to Miles City, Montana.

On December 9, 1966, Darlene was united in marriage to Delbert Verry.  Following their marriage, they settled in Belle Fourche where they operated the Motor Inn Garage. Darlene was a strong woman and a hard worker.  She always stayed busy with something and never sat down.  She worked at Piggly Wiggly in Belle Fourche.  She also started Verry’s Recycling, which is still operating today.  Darlene was a long-time member of the Alanon group in Belle Fourche, where she always had the coffee ready to pour.  She’ll be remembered for her great smile, her laugh and wit.  She was the last of 9 children in her family.  She was a wonderful mother and grandmother, great grandmother great great grandmother, and friend to many.   She will be missed greatly.

Darlene is survived by her sons, Wade (Paula) Woods of Belle Fourche, Dallas Woods of Belle Fourche; daughter, Deidre Buus of Belle Fourche; grandchildren, Jeremy Sloan, Dennis Woods, Erin Woods; great grandchildren, Kerrigan, Taylor, Aiden; and great great granddaughter, Eliana.  She is also survived by 4 sisters-in-law, Mardene, Wionia, Linda and Nellie Slaathaug; and Leah Fallback, who has been a close friend for many years.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Delbert; brothers, Lloyd, Clarence, Merlin, and Glenn Slaathaug; and sister, Angela Currier.
