George "Grandpa" Giroux

George Giroux, age 80 of Belle Fourche, died February 12, 2021 at his home with his loving family by his side.

The funeral service will be held 10 am Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at Leverington Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche.  Visitation will be held 5 to 7pm Tuesday at the funeral home.  Burial, with full military honors will take place at Black Hills National Cemetery.

The funeral will be live-streamed on George’s obituary page, located on the funeral home’s website: www.LeveringtonFH.comGeorge Michael Giroux was born July 16, 1940 in Rosebud, SD.  He was the son of Claude and Agnes (Fox) Giroux.  George grew up for a time in the Rosebud and Mission areas, but also grew up in the Lemmon area.  George served his country in the U.S. Army.  He was united in marriage to Arlene Gunhammer on April 7, 1961 in Valentine NE.  To this union 5 children were born: Carol, Allen, George, Darrell, and Tamara.  Following their marriage, George and Arlene lived in Belle Fourche, Mission, and Denver, where George attended a trade school.  After he graduated, they moved to Belle Fourche in 1972.  That year, George began working for American Colloid and shorty after Arlene’s death in 1996, George retired.  Afterwards he started driving truck with his son Allen, and those were special times. 

George enjoyed fishing and hunting, and he loved to visit with people.  He was loving and caring, and known as “Grandpa” by many people.  He will be greatly missed by his family.

George is survived by his daughter, Carol King of Rosebud; son, Allen (Guadalupe) of Belle Fourche, George of Belle Fourche, Darrell (Laura) of Shiprock NM; 4 grandsons, Dyami, Cody, Scott and Brian; 2 granddaughters, Kelly and Natasha Giroux; 6 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandson; 3 brothers, James of Eagle Butte, Patrick and Larry of Rapid City; and 2 sisters, Deborah Giroux of Aberdeen, and Ada “Tucker” Kluesner of Montana.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Arlene; daughter, Tamara Bragge; 4 granddaughters, Miki Lynn Giroux, Andrea, Danielle, and Crystal Giroux; 1 great granddaughter, Beauty Young Bear; 5 sisters, Barbara Jean Yellow, Claudette Schott, Mary Lou Reynolds, Cookie Luna, Midge Moore; and 1 brother, Claude “Butch” Giroux.
