James (Jim) Sanders of Belle Fourche, passed away peacefully August 13th, 2025. He was born July 24, 1948 to Orville and Clara (Schaeffer) Sanders in Aberdeen S.D.. Jim grew up on the family farm, graduating from Aberdeen Central High School in 1966 and Northern University in 1970. Jim worked as a Lab Technician in hospitals located at Huron, Belle Fourche, and Sundance. Jim was a doer and over the years owned a sporting good store, Fritz’s furniture and loved when he took over the family farm. After retiring Jim and Sue wintered in Arizona and loved junking and going to casino's. Jim was a ruthless card player and enjoyed every minute spent playing with family and friends. He never missed an episode of Yellowstone.
Jim’s heart belonged to the Black Hills where he enjoyed spending time fishing, hunting, and trapping. Jim enjoyed sharing his love of the outdoors with his family. Many memories were made camping and fishing with his five special girls.
Jim is survived by his wife, Susan of Belle Fourche; daughter, Stephanie (Howard Mitchell) Sanders of Clemmons NC; 3 granddaughters, Dakota, McCoy, and Reece Gonzales; brother, Bob (Fern) Sanders of Aberdeen; 5 sisters, Cindy Schwan of Aberdeen, Shelia Fordham of Groton, Lois (Jim) Opsahl of Aberdeen, Joan (Jake) Bentz of Aberdeen, Janet (Doug) Schinkel of Pierre; and many niece’s and nephews. He is also survived by his sisters-in-law, Clara (Ken) Eilering of IL, Grace (Dave) VanWell of SD, Rita Miller of WA;and brothers-in-law, Rick Banghart of SD, and Garry Lebert of MN. He was preceded in death by his parents. Jim will be missed by many and now maybe the rest of us can win a game of cards.
Arrangements are with Leverington Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche. Private family services will be held at a later date.
