Joan Wheeler-Anderson, age 98 of Spearfish, died Monday, September 21, 2026 at Garden Hills Assisted Living Center in Spearfish.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:30am Friday, October 2, 2026 at the Belle Fourche Global Methodist Church in Belle Fourche, with Pastor Sheri Fadley officiating. There will be no visitation. Inurnment will take place at Rosehill Cemetery in Spearfish.

Memorials are preferred to the Belle Fourche Fire Department or the Humane Society.

Joan Iva Davis was born April 10, 1928 in Mason, South Dakota. She was the daughter of Joseph and Iva (Noyce) Davis. Following the death of her mother when Joan was just one year old, Joan and her 3 siblings moved in with their grandparents, Albert and Mary Noyce, until her father remarried in 1931. Joan attended Crow Butte Country School, Belle Fourche High School, and she worked at Woolworth’s in Rapid City for several years. In 1954, Joan was united in marriage to Calvin Wheeler in Laurel Montana. Following their marriage, they lived in Belle Fourche where Joan worked at Montgomery Wards for several years, until the store closed. Joan and Calvin also owned and operated Port Café, the 212 Casino, and Wheeler Deisel Repair. For 20 years Joan decorated cakes of many kinds. In 1998, Calvin died. In February of 2000, Joan was married to Clifford Anderson in Spearfish. Together they were blessed with 14 years of marriage, until Clifford’s death in 2014.

Joan is survived by her children, Cindy Wheeler of Belle Fourche, Ida Peterson of Gillette WY, Bonnie Loader of Wheatland WY, Bob Tanner of Inkon ID, Leroy Tanner of Seattle WA; brothers, Wes Davis of Belle Fourche, Byron (Barb) Davis of Colony WY, Ron (Shelly) Davis of Spearfish, Dan (Delphine) Davis of Belle Fourche; sisters, Beverly (Dave) Penn of Spearfish, Sandra Oster of Missouri, Marsha Richards of Spearfish; and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Iva Davis, and her wonderful step-mother, Lucile Davis; two husbands, Calvin and Clifford; son, Robert Hayes; sisters, Florence Stedillie, Shirley Hise, Sandra Oster; brothers, Don Davis and Al Davis; and brother-in-law, Bob Richards.
