Katherine Kay Harrison was born October 5, 1954 in Valentine, Nebraska. She was the daughter of Robert and Hazel (Leighton) Harrison. While living in the White River SD area, Kay attended the Big White country school. Later she moved with her family to Kadoka when she was 8 years old, and then Nisland in 1969. She attended Newell High School. On October 16, 1972, Kay was united in marriage to Donald Linch in Sturgis. To this union two boys were born: Travis and Glade. Following their marriage, Kay and Don settled in Belle Fourche where they raised their family and owned and operated Linch Trucking for many years. Kay was a vital part of the business. She did the bookkeeping and so much more. Years ago, Kay enjoyed helping with the concessions at the Black Hills Roundup and Days of 76 rodeos. She also was employed at one time at Watts Café’ and the Tri-State Café’.
Kay was known for her cooking and her baking, especially her Chicken Fried Steak and French Toast. Her house was always clean, and kept up, and if anything needed a fresh coat of paint, she was sure to get it done. She had a colorful personality. If she liked you; you knew it, and it worked the other way as well. She loved her husband, children, and she was a devoted grandmother. She was the number one cheerleader for her grandchildren in sports, and they were all her pride and joy. She always purchased carnival tickets for them every summer, and found so many ways to show them her love. Kay will be remembered for her courageous spirit and how strong she was. COPD held her down, but she battled against it for so many years with a spirit of strength and optimism.
Grateful for having shared her life include her husband Don of Belle Fourche; sons, Travis (and Fiancé’ Carla) of Belle Fourche, Glade (Winter) of Belle Fourche; 8 grandchildren, Sage, Conner, Paul, Randi, Auburn, Kavin, Jaxon, Sameen; great grandchild C.J.; brother, Bill Harrison of Belle Fourche; sisters, Shirley Bethancourt of Belle Fourche, Mary (Bob) Crane of Black Hawk; and several nieces and nephews.
