Obituary

Peter Hatzenbiler, age 84 of Belle Fourche, died Thursday, September 17, 2026 at the Rolling Hills Healthcare Center in Belle Fourche.

Mass of Christian Burial will take place 10:30am Friday, September 25, 2026 at St. Paul Catholic Church in Belle Fourche. Visitation will take place 5 to 7pm Thursday at Leverington Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche. Interment will take place 10:30 AM Saturday, September 26th at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery in New England, North Dakota.

Peter Hatzenbiler was born December 2, 1941 in Dickinson, North Dakota. He was the son of Christ and Katherine Hatzenbiler. Peter grew up on the family ranch of his uncles’ along with several of his cousins. He was united in marriage to Mary Jane Reisenauer on June 30, 1965 in Dickinson ND. To this union one son was born, Jacob. Shortly after their marriage, Peter and Mary lived in Idaho, before settling in Williston ND in 1973. For 34 years, Peter and Mary owned and operated Pete’s Truck and Salvage. In 2011 they retired and moved to Belle Fourche. Mary died in 2020.

Pete was a good man who knew what the word “work” meant in life. There is nothing more he would rather do than operate his truck and magnet in the scrapyards that he owned. That’s what he did for most of his life, and he always had a heart for helping people. He would hire anyone who asked for a job. He loved auction sales and antiques, polka dancing with Mary, old chevy cars, and collecting clocks. Pete was a picky eater, but he loved going to breakfast and coffee every day. He will be missed greatly.

Peter is survived by his son, Jacob of Belle Fourche; granddaughter, Paige (John) Fabris of Sundance WY; great grandsons, Rylan, Walker, and Carter; sister, Rosita LaRocque of Missoula MT; and nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; brothers, Daniel, Christ Jr.; sister, Angelina Wanamaker; and brother-in-law, Alfred LaRocque.
