Phyllis K. Mehrer

Phyllis K. Mehrer, age 71 of Belle Fourche, went home to heaven with her loving family by her side, on Thursday, March 4, 2021.

The funeral service will be 2pm Tuesday, March 9^th, 2021 at St. James Lutheran Church.  Masks are requested to be worn. There will be no visitation.  Interment will take place in Pine Slope Cemetery, in Belle Fourche.

Following the service coffee and a time of fellowship will be provided at Leverington Funeral Home.

Phyllis K. Speidel was born on August 14, 1949 to a very proud Jacob F. and Donna M. (Hardisty) Speidel. She peacefully passed into the hands of the Lord at home while holding her daughter Ronda’s hand here on earth early on March 4, 2021.

Phyllis loved her family dearly and was especially devoted to her daughters and grandchildren.  Daughter Ronda was born in 1969 and added a spark of joy in her young life. On August 14, 1976 Phyllis married Lester L. Mehrer (adding his two children to the extended family) and to this union daughter Leslie was born in 1978, adding more joy to the family. Though Phyllis and Lester divorced decades later, they remained close and the entire family gathered for special occasions and holiday as a family.

Early years were spent attending school in Belle Fourche and growing up with younger brother Ron. She excelled in school, and was an exceptional clarinet player in the high school band.  She graduated from Belle Fourche High School in 1967 with honors. The family loved to go fishing and enjoyed family gatherings.

Phyllis had various jobs as a young woman, including many years hauling mail for her grandparents’ rural mail route to Alzada, MT. In 1987, she found her calling as truck driver, spending nearly 28 years proudly hauling bentonite in double trailers for S & S Trucking at Colony, WY.

She was a life-long member of St. James Lutheran church and was baptized, confirmed, and married at St. James.

Phyllis is survived by her 2 daughters, Ronda Mehrer of Belle Fourche, Leslie (Steve) Mahoney of Belle Fourche; step-son, Chris (Donna) Mehrer of Houston TX; step-daughter, Shelly Kirkland and her children Dylan, Hailey, Matthew of Washington; brother, Ron (Sheila) Speidel of Spearfish, and their 2 sons, Matthew and Mackensey; grandchildren, JakeLyn Mehrer, Joshua Mehrer, Cody Mehrer, Blake London, and Zach London; and 2 great grandchildren, Lizzy and Iris.

Phyllis was preceded in death by her parents, Jacob and Donna Speidel; former husband, Lester Mehrer; and grandson, Caleb Mehrer.
