Sawyer Allen Eck was born November 25, 2010 in Cody, Wyoming. He was the loving son of Colton and Mallory (Cruz) Eck. Sawyer just finished his freshman year at the Belle Fourche High School. It didn’t take much time to figure out that Sawyer was a natural born athlete. Basketball and football were sports that he was always working on in his off-time. The Denver Broncos were his favorite NFL team and the Minnesota Timberwolves were his favorite NBA team.

Sawyer loved the outdoors. Whether he was outside shooting hoops, or fishing, he loved being in the fresh air. He also loved video games as most teenagers do. Sawyer had an outgoing personality. To know him was to love him. He was friendly and kind to people, even people just passing by would get a wave out of Sawyer. Relationships in his life were important to him. For the past year he enjoyed his dating relationship with Railynn Strickland and her family as well. Of course his family relationships were vital to him. His sister Reagan was dear to him, and he loved his mom and dad so much.

Sawyer went home to heaven at the age of 15 on Friday, May 29, 2026 following a tragic event at the Orman Dam near Belle Fourche. He is survived by his parents, Colton and Mallory; his sister, Reagan; maternal grandparents, Robert and Rodni Cruz of Labelle FL, paternal grandparents, Monte and Christine Eck of Powell WY; maternal great grandmother, Carmen Torres of FL; paternal great grandmother, Eleanor Hofer of Laurel MT; aunts and uncles, Ashley (Cody) Rose of Powell WY, Kayla (Randy) Rosato of Spearfish SD, Roberto (Amanda) Cruz of Labelle FL, Max (Tyra) Cruz of Mammoth WY, Charlie Cruz of Labelle FL, and Carley Cruz of Labelle FL.

The memorial service will be held 10:30am Friday, June 5, 2026 at the Connection Church in Belle Fourche. Visitation will be held 5 to 7pm Thursday, at Leverington Funeral Home of the Northern Hills in Belle Fourche.
