Obituary

Shirley Roe, age 90 of Spearfish, died Thursday, June 25, 2026 at the Edgewood Healthcare Center in Spearfish.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, June 30, 2026 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Belle Fourche. Inurnment will take place at the Mount Hope Cemetery in Watertown, SD.

Memorials are preferred to the Stillwater Hospice.

Shirley June Heiser was born in Tolstoy, SD on June 1, 1936. She was the daughter of John and Anna (Lippert)Heiser. Shirley was the 5th child born to a family with 9 children. She grew up in Watertown, SD where she attended school. Shirley was united in marriage to Millard “Hosea” Roe in Strandburg, SD on May 12, 1953. To this union 2 children were born. Wayne and Marcey. Following their marriage, Shirley and Hosea lived in many places, with Watertown always being home to them. In 1998 they retired to the Black Hills, but in 2003 they returned to Watertown. In 2024 they moved to Sturgis, and for the past year, Shirley has resided at the Edgewood Healthcare Center in Spearfish.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and 7 of her siblings and her son-in-law Gary Vetter.

She is survived by her husband, Millard “Hosea” of Sturgis, her son Wayne and his wife Pat of Sturgis; her daughter Marcey Vetter of Bismarck ND. Four grandchildren, five great grandchildren, three great great grandchildren; and brother, Jerome (Pat) Heiser of Watertown.
